The Green Berets.
By Robin Moore.
First published in April 1965.

Robin Moore went through Special Forces training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina as a civilian and then accompanied Special Forces Soldiers into combat in South Vietnam. He was going to write a book of non-fiction but thought the story of Special Forces would best be told as fiction. The book was later made into a very popular movie starring John Wayne. This books is very descriptive of Special Forces operations in South Vietnam during the early years of the conflict.
